Family Birthdays, Foodie Gifts

I just went to a party for two of my favorite people—my son and his second born, my darling granddaughter. Both of them celebrated birthdays last week.

Without even thinking about it, I gave them both foodie gifts. My son grills all year round, and last time we visited he was excited about drizzling some steaks with truffle oil. So, I got him some truffle salt, plus an assortment of smoked sea salts to help expand his repertoire.

My granddaughter, Elizabeth, aka Lizzie, is a very girlie little girl. She loves to wear pink and purple, takes ballet, and was thrilled with the pink china child’s tea set we gave her for Christmas. Which led me to pick out the tea party-themed carpet and make her the matching pretty tea cookies shown in the pic above.

The gifts were a hit. And the party was lots of fun—lively, and relaxed and filled with many relatives and family friends. Some were high school and college buddies of my son I hadn’t seen in years. It was wonderful to find they’d turned into such fine, interesting, nice-to-know adults. I’m sure their parents are as proud of them as I am of Dave.

He also adores his own kids. Here’s just one of the literally thousands of photos he’s taken of Lizzie. Every time I look at it, I smile.

I never even saw the cookies! I'm sure they were good, as always.

Nancy, my grandmothers were wonderful cooks, but neither were bakers. I am kinda jealous of your grandchildren...
